Houston Dance Theatre

is a dance company created for serious young dancers in our Houston Community.   Under the Artistic Direction of Angela Jackson, H.D.T. presented a full-length production of The Nutcracker annually for 34 seasons.

The company’s repertory also includes Firebird, Cinderella, Coppélia, La Bayadere, Sleeping Beauty, Gaîté Parisienne and many outstanding and original choreographic works.
Houston Dance Theatre is an Honor company of Regional Dance America. H.D.T received the prestigious RDA/Southwest Stream Award in 2003 and 2015. Houston Dance Theatre hosted the 44th Annual Festival for Regional Dance America/SW in The Woodlands in 2006!

National Festival 2012 was held in Montreal, Canada where two works were performed by Houston Dance Theatre amongst 80 companies performances from across America.  Dynamic choreographer Densil Adams work, ”Suite Dreams” was an outstanding ballet by Mr. Adams who has origionally conceived this and several other ballets since 1989 for the company.  Also, ”Pulse”, choreography by Dwain Travis, was selected for HDT to perform while in Montreal!

In May of 2017 Regional Dance America hosted another National Festival in Phoenix, Arizona. Over 2000 participants attended daily master classes, auditions and presented performances by the member companies! HDT alumni, Laura Winters choreographed “Amentando” for our company that was selected to be performed in Phoenix. Angela Jackson has served as President of Regional Dance America while the Board of Directors has organized this outstanding national festival. The RDA/SW Festival 2018 will be held in Dallas next March.

H.D.T. continues to bring in professional guest artists, choreographers, and teachers to enhance the level of the dancers’ performing experience. Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 19th and are open to dancers who have a commitment to perform. Our talented dancers have the opportunity to audition for professional ballet summer workshops. Their acceptance and attendance to these programs demonstrates the high level of training they have received. Many college scholarships and professional contracts have been offered as a result of these contacts.
